Care & Maintenance
Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap, and dry immediately — never leave a blade soaking or run it through a dishwasher. Wipe on a light coat of food-grade mineral oil after use to protect the steel, and store it dry in a sheath, knife roll, or on a magnetic strip. A few seconds of care after each use keeps a hand-forged edge true for decades.

From the forge
About this piece
A Serbian-style culinary cleaver — the classic wide-bellied, curved-tip profile built for splitting joints, crushing garlic, or breaking down a whole bird in a few confident strokes. The blade is hand-forged from high-carbon steel and finished with a hand-hammered texture across the face, meeting a clean, polished cutting edge.
The handle is fitted from polished black buffalo horn, set with a decorative mosaic pin and a curved, polished steel bolster cap for a refined, substantial grip.
The details: High-carbon steel (58–62 HRC), hand-forged Serbian-profile blade with a hand-hammered finish and polished cutting edge. Full tang construction. Polished black buffalo horn handle with decorative mosaic pin and steel bolster cap. Includes hand-stitched leather belt sheath with snap closure. Hand wash, dry immediately, occasional light oiling of blade and handle.
A gift worth giving: The buffalo horn handle and mosaic pin give this cleaver a more refined look than a typical kitchen workhorse — a strong pick for a cook who wants serious chopping power that still looks the part on display.
Every piece leaves the forge ready for a lifetime of use — our Knife Care guide covers the few simple habits that keep a hand-forged edge that way.
FAQ
Is this dishwasher safe? No — hand wash and dry immediately after use; oil the blade and handle occasionally.
What is the hand-hammered finish? A traditional hand-hammering technique applied during forging that leaves a textured surface — functional (helps food release from the blade) and a visible mark of hand craftsmanship.
What does "full tang" mean, and why does it matter? The blade steel runs the full length of the handle in one piece — real durability for a cleaver, which sees serious chopping force.
Does it come with a sheath? Yes — every Northbound Blade knife ships with a leather sheath included.
