Dimensions & Weight

Exact measurements for this piece are being added — reach out and we're happy to confirm dimensions before you order.

Care & Maintenance

Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap, and dry immediately — never leave a blade soaking or run it through a dishwasher. Wipe on a light coat of food-grade mineral oil after use to protect the steel, and store it dry in a sheath, knife roll, or on a magnetic strip. A few seconds of care after each use keeps a hand-forged edge true for decades.

Personalisation & Engraving

Add free engraving with the option above — up to 20 characters on the blade, or engrave the leather sheath. Adds 2 business days. Engraved pieces are final sale. For any other engraving request, email us at info@northboundblade.com.

Shipping & Returns

We ship worldwide, fully tracked, with free shipping on orders over $150 to Canada and the USA. Each piece is prepared within 2 business days; delivery to Canada and the USA usually takes 8–11 business days, and delivery options for your country are shown at checkout.

Full-price items can be returned within 14 days of delivery, unused and in their original packaging. Sale items and engraved pieces are final sale. If any piece, including a sale or engraved piece, arrives damaged, defective or incorrect, contact us and we'll refund or replace it and cover the return shipping.

From the forge

About this piece

A wide-bellied culinary cleaver built for real kitchen work — splitting joints, crushing garlic, or breaking down a whole bird. The blade is hand-forged from high-carbon steel and finished with a hand-hammered (tsuchime) texture, leaving a faceted, dimpled surface across the face that meets a clean, polished cutting edge — every facet a mark of the hammer, no two blades quite alike.

The handle is fitted from solid rosewood, shaped for a secure, comfortable grip through heavy chopping.

The details: High-carbon steel (58–62 HRC), hand-forged and finished with a hand-hammered tsuchime texture, polished cutting edge. Full tang construction. Solid rosewood handle, polished pins. Includes hand-stitched leather sheath with snap closure. Hand wash, dry immediately, occasional light oiling of blade and handle.

A gift worth giving: The hand-hammered finish means every blade carries its own unique texture — a distinctive piece for the cook who wants their tools to look as considered as their cooking.

Every piece leaves the forge ready for a lifetime of use — our Knife Care guide covers the few simple habits that keep a hand-forged edge that way.

FAQ

Is this dishwasher safe? No — hand wash and dry immediately after use; oil the blade and handle occasionally.

What is the hammered (tsuchime) finish? It's a traditional hand-hammering technique applied during forging that leaves a faceted texture across the blade — functional (it helps food release from the surface) and a visible mark of hand craftsmanship.

What does "full tang" mean, and why does it matter? The blade steel runs the full length of the handle in one piece — real durability for a cleaver, which sees serious chopping force.

Does it come with a sheath? Yes — every Northbound Blade knife ships with a leather sheath included.

01 — Forged

Shaped at the anvil

Bar stock is heated and hammered to shape by hand — every bevel drawn out at the anvil, never stamped from a sheet.

02 — Tempered

Hardened true

Each blade is hardened and tempered in controlled cycles, balancing a keen, hard edge with a resilient spine.

03 — Finished

Fitted & inspected

Ground, polished and fitted with its handle, then inspected edge to pommel before it ever leaves the forge.
