Steel & Hardness

Blade steel: Damascus Steel

Hardness: 58 to 62 HRC (Rockwell scale)

Hand-forged layered steel folded to reveal a distinctive flowing wave pattern — no two blades are alike. Prized for its hard cutting edge and excellent edge retention. Hand wash, dry immediately, and apply a light coat of food-grade oil to protect the etched pattern.

Care & Maintenance

Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap, and dry immediately — never leave a blade soaking or run it through a dishwasher. Wipe on a light coat of food-grade mineral oil after use to protect the steel, and store it dry in a sheath, knife roll, or on a magnetic strip. A few seconds of care after each use keeps a hand-forged edge true for decades.

Personalisation & Engraving

Add free engraving with the option above — up to 20 characters on the blade, or engrave the leather sheath. Adds 2 business days. Engraved pieces are final sale. For any other engraving request, email us at info@northboundblade.com.

We ship worldwide, fully tracked, with free shipping on orders over $150 to Canada and the USA. Each piece is prepared within 5 business days, and delivery options for your country are shown at checkout.

From the forge

About this piece

Five hand-forged Damascus blades, several finished with a hand-hammered texture, set in rosewood handles capped with polished steel butt ends.

A heavier, substantial feel: the steel caps counterbalance the grip and add durability for daily use, while the rosewood brings warmth to a bold, hammered-finish design.

What's in the set:

  • Slicer — 8.8" blade, 13" overall
  • Large Chef's Knife — 7.5" blade, 11.6" overall
  • Cleaver-Style Chopper — 7.6" blade, 11.7" overall
  • Small Chef's Knife — 5.6" blade, 9.8" overall
  • Utility Knife — 4.7" blade, 8.9" overall

The details: Damascus steel (58–62 HRC), forged and hand-finished, full tang construction. Rosewood handles with polished steel butt caps. Hand wash, dry immediately, light coat of food-grade oil.

A gift worth giving: The most substantial-feeling set in the lineup — built for the cook (or collector) who wants heft and balance in daily prep. A solid Father's Day or housewarming pick.

Every piece leaves the forge ready for a lifetime of use — our Knife Care guide covers the few simple habits that keep a hand-forged edge that way.

FAQ

Is this dishwasher safe? No — hand wash only, dry immediately, and apply a light coat of food-grade oil to protect the Damascus pattern.

What does "full tang" mean, and why does it matter? The blade steel runs the full length of the handle in one solid piece rather than a separate tang inserted into the handle — it's what serious cooks and collectors look for, since it means better balance and a knife that won't loosen at the handle over years of use.

Does the Damascus pattern vary between sets? Yes — every blade is folded and forged by hand, so the wave pattern on your set is unique to that piece.

01 — Forged

Shaped at the anvil

Bar stock is heated and hammered to shape by hand — every bevel drawn out at the anvil, never stamped from a sheet.

02 — Tempered

Hardened true

Each blade is hardened and tempered in controlled cycles, balancing a keen, hard edge with a resilient spine.

03 — Finished

Fitted & inspected

Ground, polished and fitted with its handle, then inspected edge to pommel before it ever leaves the forge.
